ABOUT THIS PLAY

"Charles Mee’s weirdly compelling bobrauschenberg-america finds a perfect match in Available Light's precise and energetic production... which combines unlikely elements with results that can be comic or disturbing, but are always fascinating."

– Margaret Quamme, Columbus Dispatch

From the most influential playwright of the 21st century and the creator behind Available Light's beloved [Stop Sign language] and God's Ear comes a wild road trip through our American landscape.

bobrauschenbergamerica is a play made as one of America's greatest artists, Robert Rauschenberg, might have conceived it if he had been a playwright instead of a painter. Traveling easily through time, the play's kaleidoscopic images take us from Rauschenberg's childhood home to a New York café to the open road.

A collage of people and places and music and dancing, of love stories and picnics and business schemes and shootings and chicken jokes and golfing, and of the sheer exhilaration of living in a country where people make up their lives as they go.
